Brits in Greece and Pork Pies in Athens
We all knock Facebook now and again, me included, usually about how much time we spend on there, logging on to say Happy Birthday to someone and suddenly noticing that two hours has passed, how did that happen?
Here, the problem is us, not Facebook, we just have to practice some self-control.
The other big thing is the privacy aspect, well, my philosophy on this is, if you have a Facebook account privacy flies out the window, if you don’t feel comfortable with that, then don’t sign up.
So, limit yourself time wise, count to ten before leaving a caustic comment, avoid doing so and enjoy it.
Just recently, Facebook has been a mine of useful information for me, especially the group;
I must say though, I hope the novelty wears off a bit, I am losing sleep watching British TV series, take Broardchurch for example, I stayed up all night watching episode after episode, I must put self-control into action!
All this info was kindly shared by members of the group, I do wish I could participate and contribute more, I don’t have the time, I play full time Grandma to three year old Melina, who, if she spots me turning on the laptop, wants to watch “My Little Pony” or “Clifford the Big Red Dog” on Youtube!
Through this group I learnt that there is now a new application form for British passports which seems to be causing a lot of problems, rather worrying, as mine is coming up to renewal time, I wonder how many times I shall be referring back to the passport post on ” BRITS IN GREECE” for help?
My daughter, Nais, is absolutely over the moon, we found pork pies in Athens, yes, you guessed it, through “BRITS IN GREECE.”
Someone mentioned a British food shop in Athens, I clicked on the link and, lo and behold, an Aladdin’s cave of British Goodies, I quickly ran down the list, looking for pork pies, and yes, there they were.
The shop, BR Foods, is in Halandri, only ten minutes away from Nais who lives in Agia Paraskevi, I discovered the shop on a Wednesday, Thursday, Nais was in there, buying pork pies, Sarson’s malt vinegar for me, Bird’s custard powder and pork sausages, amongst other things.
Check out the Facebook page BR Foods
Yesterday’s lunch was a hundred percent British; sausage, egg and chips, all doused in malt vinegar, mustn’t make a habit of this!
This is one thing I really do miss about England, fish and chips, first stop after leaving the airport on arriving in England is the chippy, how lucky I am to be from Leeds, and just minutes away from the best fish and chip shop in the world, Harry Ramsdens?
The memories that flood back when eating good old Yorkshire fish and chips along the seafront in Filey on the east coast of Yorkshire.
I really do think that we will become regular customers of George, who runs the Brit shop, Nais definitely will, she is home every weekend in Loutraki, so, Friday’s I shall have my list ready!
Have a look at George’s Shop, (The link below) make a list and visit him in Halandri.
Thank you Lorraine and “BRITS IN GREECE”
I will be thinking of you and the group tonight as I sit watching British TV whilst scoffing McVities ginger nuts!
