 1.  1929 – Athens

2. 1920s – Temple of Olympian Zeus – Athens

Dedicated to “Olympian” Zeus, a name originating from his position as head of the Olympian gods.

 

 

 

3.  1920s – Rhodes Arsenal Gate – Image from a 1909 postcard

The Arsenal Gate is the entrance to The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, a medieval castle on the island of Rhodes also known as the Kastello.

It is one of the few examples of Gothic architecture in Greece.

Rhodes, Island of the Knights Templar,  is one of The Dodecanese, a group of 15 larger and 150 smaller Greek islands in the southeastern Aegean Sea and Eastern Mediterranean.

Loutraki is a seaside resort on the Gulf of Corinth, known for its natural springs, therapeutic spas and one of the largest casinos in Europe.

This poster features a mosaic from the southern part of the Rotunda of Galerius, built around 300 A.D. (also known as the Rotunda of St. George), depicting the military figure Onesiphorus.

The poster, created in the 1950s, uses a rare example of Medieval Greek religious art for national branding purposes, promoting Thessaloniki as a cultural and tourist destination.

In July 1956, Aristotle Onassis bought the national airline from the Greek state and renamed it Olympic Airways.

This advertisement is from May 1956, a year before the carrier officially began operations under the new owner and while the tycoon was still in negotiations with the Greek government.

 The design shows Athens, Thessaloniki and Rhodes.
