Vintage Travel Posters of Greece
Through the years, these great Greek attractions have been presented to the world, in the form of striking, colourful, travel posters.
The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) was founded in 1929, as part of the first organized effort to promote Greece as a destination for international travelers.
One of the assets the organization resorted to were posters, the main promotional medium of the era.

Dedicated to “Olympian” Zeus, a name originating from his position as head of the Olympian gods.

3. 1920s – Rhodes Arsenal Gate – Image from a 1909 postcard
The Arsenal Gate is the entrance to The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, a medieval castle on the island of Rhodes also known as the Kastello.
It is one of the few examples of Gothic architecture in Greece.
Rhodes, Island of the Knights Templar, is one of The Dodecanese, a group of 15 larger and 150 smaller Greek islands in the southeastern Aegean Sea and Eastern Mediterranean.

In July 1956, Aristotle Onassis bought the national airline from the Greek state and renamed it Olympic Airways.
This advertisement is from May 1956, a year before the carrier officially began operations under the new owner and while the tycoon was still in negotiations with the Greek government.
The design shows Athens, Thessaloniki and Rhodes.
